there is a hidey hole for your key?

Sitting here in the parking lot waiting on someone and I was messing with the center console storage and I noticed there is a removable rubber grommet at the bottom. The manual talks about the tiller dimples to put your key on if the battery is low but under there is a key sized hole! What was the purpose? Are you supposed to leave your key in there permanently and just hope nobody steals your car?

Yes yes, I saw that in the manual but the picture shows the four little corner dimples that are present on the rubber bottom. Below that is a key shaped recess. It's probably for the same thing and the rubber mat was an afterthought.
