@SparkE
I had replied to this in the thread you made but I see it's over here now but my reply seemed to have got lost. It can stay lost now.

In the Tesla app, select your vehicle make, model, year. There should then be a choice for having the nacs adapter or not. If you don't tell it you have the adapter you will see MagicDock (I think). If you tell it you do then you'll see all the SuC's that accept the adapter (not all do).

1. gm (looks a lot like the Lectron)
2. dealer, $310 CDN
3. Spark is not on the list in the Tesla app and it doesn't do fast charging anyway. So no.
edit: correction
4. the forum brand
5. worked fine the one time I used it immediately after buying it.
6. I seem to gather that prices can vary. I paid $0.50 / kwh CDN the one time I used
No magic docks near me, I'm hoping the adapter comes down in price eventually. Plenty of regular chargers though, so no real urgency to buy the adapter. More curiosity than anything.

A friend of mine did just this... Drove from SoCal to CO Springs in ~2018. He had to rely on L1 several times, L2 when possible, and an occasional DCFC session. I recall it was a 5 day journey.
Sounds about right. Still, with an average of ~216 miles/day (meaning at least four charging stops per day), doesn't look like that trip with an 82-mile BEV would be all that bad today. That is, if someone had five days with nothing else to do. Better bring a book.

But maybe not so terrific back in 2018, with the worst segment being the ~157 miles between Barstow and Las Vegas.

FWIW, Car & Driver actually did something similar taking a Bolt across Death Valley back in late 2019:

More of an emergency lifeline than a curiosity in my mind. The A2Z one could be had for <$140 for a while. Eventually it might get a little cheaper, but not that much. After all, they aren't going to sell millions of these things.

The EV's being built now are not equal to ICE for many reasons.
In my experience, this is not true at all. My Bolt EUV is nicer than any ICE car I've owned. My daughter tells me her Model Y is the nicest car she's owned. How exactly are EV's lacking compared with ICE cars?

It can't be price/value. My Bolt was less than many ICE cars of similar size and utility. My daughter's Model Y was much less than competing ICE cars. Sure, there is the tax credit, but even without that, they would be very competitive.

No, they are not equal....they far exceed ICE's being built today for many reasons 😁

No toxic fumes or messy oils while refueling.
Batteries that last longer than engines.
Easy reconditioning of your car.
Instant torque to avoid dangerous situations
Smooth, quiet ride.
Ability to fuel up at home or wherever you might be.
Built-in longer stops on extended trips to keep you fresh.
No lose of power at elevation.
Etc.
Etc.

I guess everyone has their own logic and rationalizations. This is how I see it: Most people take long trips by car once or twice a year, if at all due to cheap and fast air travel. So that is a minimal concern for most drivers.

For those who make such trips, charging time can be planned and used for rest breaks. Even with my slow-charging Bolt, stopping to charge and take a 35-45 minute break every 3 or so hours is fine with me. And that is a worst case scenario. For most EV owners, the stops will be fewer and shorter.

Batteries seem far less likely to fail after their long warranty period compared with an ICE engine failing after a warranty period typically less than half as long.

It's okay to acknowledge a few undesirable aspects of an EV. Really. It's okay. Listing positive aspects doesn't magically make the few negative ones go away.

Yes, yes, perfectly okay with you. Some people are not as okay with it though. Personally, I find it a bit annoying to use an EV for a long trip and it's not so much the stopping along the way. The annoying part is after I'm at a vacation spot for several days and I have to think about when I'm going to have to take a drive to the nearest charger to fill up and how that fits in, or doesn't, with my planned activities during my limited vacation time. It's not annoying enough to outweigh the other positives, but that doesn't make it less annoying. Being able to use any Tesla charger or CCS charger helps, but it's still not nearly as convenient as just stopping for 10 minutes at a gas station along the way.

I would've brought up charging monster EVs but the wait time is actually very decent for the EV9 with 800v charging. :)

I don't know if this helps or not, but I bought my adaptor off of Ebay for 88 dollars, 102 after all was said and done. It works well. Even if the rating on it is fictitious, the Bolt only pulls about 15% of it's rating. It didn't even get warm during charge, released well and everything. Bob

This once useful thread has evolved into a lot of bunny trail topics. Time to close it? Just use 'Like' (Thumbs up) for Yes, or 'Sad' for No. Will temporarily close it for a day to collect responses.

I tried finding a thread to post this on but most link up to the megathread with a couple thousand posts.

A month ago or so, I was surprised to receive an email from Chevy advertising the new NACS supercharger adapter. I was not surprised to see this was back ordered and figured it could be months before I receive it. I was very pleasantly surprised when I got an email the next day saying that it was shipped!!! I was skeptical though. But a few days later I got an email from my local small town Chevy dealer that the part I ordered was in. Yes it was more expensive than others I’ve seen on line, however having the certified charger and the peace of mind of opening a vast number of new charging options was well worth it IMO. I live in central Illinois and have had to drive to numerous medical appointments in Chicago lately. With the Bolt being one of the worst EVs in terms of cold temperature efficiency. I was unable to make the 140 mile trip with a full charge. There were a couple of Tesla supercharger charging banks about half way up. So I stopped at one and tried it out for the first time a couple weeks ago. It worked flawlessly. I parked next to one Tesla and plugged in and got either a quizzical or disgusted look (I couldn’t tell which) from the cars owner. 😜 I was able to charge for a half hour to give me what I needed to complete the trip. To help with the efficiency, I drove 65 instead of 75, which saved me about .5 miles per kwh on efficiency. I have used the adapter a total of four times now. It does not work on all chargers though. I tried using it at another charger at a parking garage and it wouldn’t activate. But if you look on the Tesla app, this charger did NOT say “Adapter or NACS port required”, whereas the supercharger banks along the interstate did. So something to look out for. Charging can be tricky though since the Tesla charge cords are short and sometimes you end up taking two spaces to charge. But if there are plenty open it’s no big deal IMO. I would move however if it got to the point where that extra spot was needed. So, in short, I’m very happy with my Adapter and charging experience so far. I took this picture and proudly sent it to some friends who I thought would be interested. I’m choosing to bury my head in the sand and ignore the politics of the situation.

Tesla chargers are reportedly available for charging Bolts that have GM approved adapters. However I have not found this to be true. And none of the Tesla chargers in my local city ( Traverse City Michigan ) will allow my Bolt to be charged ….with a message indicating that they are only available for Tesla charging . No one (dealer etc) seems to know why . ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM OR HAVE ANY ADVICE ?

Your thread will likely get closed or merged into another. If you went to https://www.tesla.com/findus/location/supercharger/traversecitysupercharger, of course it won't work. It needs to be >150 kW and v3 or above Supercharger open to non-Teslas.

Ford put together https://www.ford.com/support/how-to...port/how-tos/electric-vehicles/public-charging/how-to-find-tesla-superchargers/.

Not that this is the right state, but here's an example of one that should work:
vs. one that won't: https://www.tesla.com/findus/location/supercharger/kettlemancitysupercharger.

What other ones have you tried that didn't work? We can look them up.... I suspect it's the same deal...
