I was thinking about this some more and wondered if the 1w rating on the resistor was enough for OnStar transmission power. I found this on another board:
“The difference is not the type of modulation, but the transmit power. AMPS cell phones, of which the original On*Star was one, were allowed by the FCC to transmit at up to 3 watts of power. CDMA cell phones, such as the current On*Star, are limited by the FCC to 0.6 watts. This drastic difference is undoubtedly how On*Star acquired the reputation of working in places where digital cell phones do not.”

I don’t know which one our Bolts have for sure. The AMPS requirement was discontinued in 2008, though carriers continued it past that date. Our Bolts probably have the newer lower power 0.6w standard which means the brass resistor in my previous post is OK. I have a 2012 Equinox that can no longer be supported by OnStar (3g network) so that was likely the old 3w version.

With this information, probably better to get the 2W rated resistors hooked directly to the connector.
